A sip of pure matcha is often enough to start a conversation. At Neumarkt in Biel, two small businesses came together for a day under one motto: Ichigo Ichie.
Ichigo Ichie — a meeting, once in a lifetime. Under this motto, we spent a day together with Kiosk Wasen in Biel: pure matcha, alongside a small, homemade dorayaki. Nothing more. And yet more than we expected.
Preparation, step by step — that too is part of a day like this.
We didn't expect this many people. Throughout the day, new faces kept stopping by, curious whether pure matcha really tastes good — and that almost always turned into a conversation. This kind of tea culture — direct, uncomplicated, right on the street — barely exists in this form in Switzerland yet. For my wife, who is from Japan, it was a particularly beautiful moment to experience here in Biel.
